Electropolished Pipe Clamps — Ra ≤ 0.4 µm Surface Finish

Bioprocessing-grade electropolished clamps for pharmaceutical, semiconductor and high-purity applications.

Surface finish on the clamp-pipe contact face determines whether bacteria can colonise the interface during CIP. NIBRO electropolished clamps deliver a controlled, measured Ra ≤ 0.4 µm finish on the clamping face — the same purity envelope as the wetted pipe.

Section 01

Why surface finish matters at the clamp

Bacteria preferentially attach to surfaces above Ra 0.8 µm. CIP cycles remove planktonic bacteria but struggle to dislodge biofilm from machined or as-rolled surfaces. The clamp inner face is in continuous contact with the pipe; if it has a rough surface, biofilm bridges between pipe and clamp and grows back after every cleaning.

Electropolishing dissolves the outer micrometres of the stainless surface, leaving a mirror finish with no peaks for bacteria to anchor onto.

Frequently asked

Because the clamp-pipe interface accumulates moisture, condensate and CIP residue — and that interface becomes biofilm-friendly if either surface is rougher than the validated envelope.
